CASSCO (Cultural Advisory Service-Seminar & Conference Organiser)

CASSCO is the business part of the company. While COTW focusses on the research CASSCO does work in schools and has organised a conference.

Initially the work has focussed in Ducie High School; formal lessons were timetabled on a weekly basis for year 10. As the project gained momentum, the involvement of local primaries took place, thus it has greatly enlarged the access that pupils had to the project and their own personal family histories. Again, the intention was to train, inform, mentor and motivate improvement and academic attainment.

A database of information has been set up to monitor academic attainment and also to set targets for improvement. Involvement with parents is essential, as one of the areas, which the project wishes to impact upon, is the high rate of truancy and condoned absence, which exists within the city's schools. Children cannot learn if they are not in school regularly.

The extension of the project to feeder primaries and their parents will tackle long term issues of awareness raising and, hopefully, lay the foundations for a healthy inclusion within the education system for all children, rather than for a fortunate group. After all, an appropriate curriculum is the entitlement of every child. The project will provide teaching and working materials, which motivate and involve children at all levels of education. It will increase understanding and awareness for many of the partners within the project.
